Hello!
I recently bought a Lyra (pentatonic, 12 strings)in Zürich, Switzerland and I'm very happy with it! I keep wondering what kind of symbol that "y"-shaped form in the middle of the wood is. Could anyone tell me? I connected it to the Yggdrasil but I might well be wrong...
Greetings from Switzerland,
Regula
Kjell Andersson / AURIS responsible for the Y-hole replies The Y is not a Y or not even to be considered as a tone hole in the instrument. The Y shaped opening is meant to create three "tongues" that are resonating with slightly different frequencies whilst you are playing the lyre. From the beginning the small Auris lyre models had no such form at all and were quite much stronger but simpler sounding. After the creation of the “Y-hole” which I did together with the composer and music teacher Per Ahlbom, the sound became richer and more "spherical" which also were what we strived to achieve. Hello,
I just tried to send an email through your "contact Auris" section of your website, but I don't think that it was successful. My apologies if this is a duplicate.
I went through the LifeWays training at Rudolf Steiner College in Fair Oaks, California several years ago, and one of our requirements was to purchase a pentatonic lyre and to learn how to use it so we could bring music to the children in our care.
My instrument has been a challenge since the very beginning to keep in tune, so I have used it infrequently. At the beginning of this new school year, I had a skilled musician try to help me tune it. An individual string would stay in tune only if she held the tuner on the peg, and as soon as she removed the tuner, the string went immediately off-key.
It is frustrating to pay for an instrument, only to not use it, so I would like to exchange my lyre for a new one, or send the instrument to your technicians to service and return...in tune, please.
Thank you,
Brighid FitzGibbon
